Conversion Disorder

Conversion disorder – formerly known as Hysteria – is a mental disorder in which the suffered experiences physical symptoms, such as numbness, fits, or blindness, seemingly without any specific bodily cause. These physical symptoms are often in response to stressors affecting the sufferer’s mental health.

Some of the many symptoms of Conversion disorder are:

  • Loss of speech
  • Uncontrolled hysterical screaming
  • Deafness
  • Double vision
  • Feelings of physical pain
  • Trouble walking

The key to treating those with conversion disorder lies in determining the mental cause(s) of the symptoms. Psychotherapy may be effective an effective course of action. An assessment must be done before any treatment plan can be put into motion. Insight Psychological can help – contact us today.
