We’ll match you with the right therapist and help you get started quickly.
If you are hurting yourself, you are not broken, and you are not beyond help.
Self-harm may be managing something that currently feels unmanageable, and for a lot of people, it may be the only thing that has ever reliably worked. That is why “just stop” fails, and why nobody here will say it to you.
Our work is not to take it away and leave you with nothing. It is to build something that does the same job better, until you no longer need the thing you have been using.
You can book while you are still self-harming. You do not have to have stopped, or promised to stop, or be certain you want to.
If you have injured yourself badly, or you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline: call or text 9-8-8
Free, 24 hours a day, every day, in English and French. You do not have to be suicidal to call.
Stopping is the goal, but building what makes stopping feel survivable is the route, and it comes first.
It will not be a straight line. Most people stop, start again, and then stop for longer, which is what recovery from this usually looks like. Going back to it does not undo your progress, and it is not a reason to leave therapy or to stop telling your therapist the truth.
It does not mean bubble baths, and it does not mean swapping one kind of pain for another.
It means specific, learnable skills, matched to the job self-harm was doing:
Fifty minutes, in a private room or on a secure video call.
Your therapist will ask what brought you in and what your goals for accessing support are. You can answer in as much or as little detail as you want. You will not be asked to show anything, or to describe anything you are not ready to describe.
Most of the early work is understanding the pattern and starting to build skills.
Finding out your child is hurting themselves is frightening, and fear pushes parents toward the one move that reliably backfires: demanding it stops immediately.
Your child is using this to manage something. If it is removed before anything replaces it, they are left with the original problem and no way to handle it. The usual result is that it goes underground rather than away.
What helps:
You did not cause this by being a bad parent, and you cannot fix it by being a perfect one.
