Divorce is complex and involves more than dissolution of a partnership between spouses. Coming up with an appropriate and balanced custody agreement that benefits the children is a process complicated by many issues and emotions.
These can include communication problems and any residual anger or frustration being taken out through this process. Additionally, this process can be hard on children in this situation.

It’s not uncommon for there to be emotional upset in all parties involved in a divorce or separation. However, if you or your children are having psychological issues that are severe or ongoing as a result of your custodial access, then it may be time to seek support.
There is no one single treatment for dealing with the stress of custody access issues because it depends on what impact these issues have had on you. For example, if what you’re experiencing anxiety, then treatments for anxiety will be effective. If you’re depressed, then that’s the focus of treatment. Same goes for grief, anger management, etc. Together with your therapist, you will discover the best treatment method for alleviating symptoms. You can come alone to therapy, together with your ex, or as a family.
Custody access issues can have a big impact on your emotional, psychological and even physical health and it affects your children. We can support you as you transition through this major life change. Insight Psychological has a number of counsellors who are trained in helping people with their custody access issues.
Sometimes couples will seek divorce or separation counselling to help them to negotiate a fair and amicable separation and the best way to support their children. Insight can help with that too.
