Insight Psychological Therapists - Calvin Schlosser

Calvin Schlosser
Calvin Schlosser, Practicum Intern Therapist, BSc, MACP Student (He/Him)

Welcome! As a therapist, I emphasize building collaborative therapeutic relationships through a genuine, empathic, and nonjudgmental approach to create an environment that promotes warmth, trust, and safety. Your lived experiences matter. My goal is to help you overcome the challenges that interfere with your daily life. I practice counselling from various perspectives, each with their own strengths, and integrate them when needed to most benefit you. Together, we will establish a treatment plan that fits your unique needs and help you to achieve your goals. I look forward to being a part of your healing journey.

*NOTE: Our Practicum Therapists offer reduced rates for counselling support. Please be aware that FEES WILL BE NON-REIMBURSABLE by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.

More About Calvin Schlosser

Getting the chance to help my clients navigate the challenges they face is a unique and rewarding experience. Witnessing their positive development and growth overtime is what I enjoy most. Having worked as a counsellor in a residential setting for the past two years, I have come to develop a deep appreciation for the resilience that people have.

I believe these strengths need to be emphasized while developing a more complete sense of self and strategies to overcoming adversity. Depending on your needs, I practice from a Cognitive-Behavioral or Person-Centered perspective. This means that I take either a more directed approach in that I guide the direction of therapy, or a nondirected approach in that I see clients as the experts of their own lives. I value an eclectic approach to therapy overall, however, meaning that I draw from numerous treatment approaches, including Adlerian Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Mindfulness and Attachment theories.

Therapy is a collaborative process, so we will work together to build a strong and positive therapeutic relationship, identify your concerns, and establish specific goals that fit your needs. This might look like increasing emotional- or self-awareness, insight, and communication skills; establishing healthy coping strategies; creating new self-narratives; or focusing on solution-based outcomes. I look forward to meeting with you.

A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS:

What has been the most satisfying part of being a therapist?

In my journey as a therapist so far, I would have to say the most satisfying part has been witnessing the growth and personal development of clients. I truly enjoy establishing the therapeutic relationship with my clients, unearthing their strengths, discovering new insights, and witnessing their resilience during the difficult times. I learn as much from them as they learn from me.

What are you most passionate about?

Creativity. I believe that creativity is a form of self-expression through whatever form it takes, whether that be art, music, story-telling, dancing, role-playing, or problem-solving. I believe that being creative is to experience a connection with your thoughts, feelings, and inner-most self.
