Insight Psychological Therapists - Brilene Wohlgemuth

Brilene Wohlgemuth, Practicum Intern Therapist, BComm, BEd, MACP Student (She/Her)

I wholeheartedly believe that each individual is the expert of their own lives and stories. As a result, my approach to therapy focuses on cultivating clients’ unique skills, resiliency and internal resources. I aim to create a therapeutic space that is safe, nonjudgemental and fun, as I tend to infuse my therapy methods with humor when appropriate. Given the opportunity, I believe we can work together to explore lived experiences, overcome obstacles, discover solutions and ultimately meet your personal goals.

NOTE: Our Practicum Therapists offer reduced rates for counselling support. Please be aware that FEES WILL BE NON-REIMBURSABLE by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.

More About Brilene Wohlgemuth

A little bit about me: I identify as an Indigenous practicum intern therapist. I have experience working predominantly with adolescence but have also worked with children, adults and families to meet therapeutic goals. I have supported Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ2S+ individuals, English language learners and other culturally diverse populations.

As a current educator, with eight years of experience teaching and counselling adolescence, I have recently embarked on a path to strengthen these therapeutic skills and apply them to diverse populations. I seek to understand clients’ unique identities, while working together to develop an effective treatment plan to achieve their personal goals. As such, my integrative therapeutic approach is individualized and holistic that draws on person-centered, solution-focused brief therapy, and narrative approaches based on the needs of my clients. I am passionate about exploring experiences through a trauma-informed and holistic lens that honors unique experiences, especially around marginalization, oppression and intersectionality, in order to create a safe space for individuals of all backgrounds to be valued as equal.

I believe that individuals are best able to find success when they discover a caring, nonjudgemental and welcoming environment in which they feel like they belong- I am ready to co-create this therapeutic environment so that we can work together towards your goals.

A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS:

What is your favourite quote?

“Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes”- Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I believe the best way to implement change is to be strong in your convictions, overcome negative self-talk or the overarching opinions of others and speak your truth. When you least expect it, someone might be listening to and learning from what you have to say- I hope to be one of those someones.

What are you most passionate about?

Equality. I am a strong advocate of social justice, recognizing systemic inequalities & oppressions and creating plans that work towards reconciliation. I believe in making space for diverse, and oftentimes silenced, voices while promoting equality among all intersectionalities, in order to foster a culture of empowerment.
