I have this problem when I find it hard to eat in front of people, because I think if they see how much I eat then they won’t want to be my friend and think i’m fat, and in a non- up myself way i’m skinny but not in an anorexic way. How do I get over it?

Dear Charlie,

Issues around body image and eating are difficult to deal with. They are, however, quiet common. It sounds like the beliefs you have about food are controlling your thoughts and preventing you from enjoying life and experiencing friendships (without worrying about what other people are thinking about you). You may want to check out the eating disorders clinic in Edmonton (SACRED  780-903-3300). You could also come into Insight and speak to one of our counselors Both Maggie Brennan and Jason Jones (counselors at Insight) specialize in issues around eating and body image. In person, we can further explore your relationship with food and help increase your self-confidence so you can recognize that people do want to be your friend no matter how much you eat.
