I’m a fifteen year old female and I am suffering with depression, I have seen my doctor and been referred to a therapist. I have had three or four sessions with her now and my depression has – for some reason – became much worse and overwhelming. I was wondering why this was and what I can do?
Therapy is an opportunity to deal with many of the problems in our life; problems that have often been buried for years. It is common to feel like things are getting worse before they get better. I would suggest talking to your therapist about how you are feeling, let her know that your depression is becoming worse and overwhelming. She may suggest some self-soothing techniques to help you calm yourself down as you deal with the issues that have led to your depression. It is okay to experience pain for growth. It’s just important to communicate that pain to your therapist so you can work through it.
