Sexual Functioning Assessment

Formal assessments can help to identify your strengths and weaknesses and provide a clearer path forward for your mental health care. Insight’s trained sex therapists provide assessments that assist individuals of all ages to improve their lives or address risk or legal concerns. With the use of these assessments, we can identify areas that can help make an individual’s life better whether that’s in the area of sexual compulsion, sexual offender or violence risk assessment, or a gender assessment and referral.

What is a sexual functioning assessment?

A sexual functioning assessment measures the level of sexual function (or dysfunction).

Why is the assessment used?

It’s an important tool used to diagnose sexual disorders. Sexual issues can escalate to become a sexual disorder. Generally, sexual disorders are abnormalities of the mind that result in persistent behavior patterns that can seriously affect your relationships, self esteem, and negatively impact your life. It’s possible for more than one disorder to be present at the same time in the same person.

Having a diagnosis of a sexual disorder can confirm your suspicions one way or the other. Assessments can measure the severity of sexual disorders and help to inform treatment.

The assessment process

These assessments are usually brief and are completed in session.
