Insight Psychological Therapists - Mark Korthuis

Mark Korthuis, Practicum Intern Therapist,

My journey to becoming a counsellor has been shaped by diverse experiences. As a former professional athlete, I’ve navigated the pressures of high-performance environments. In my roles as President and CEO of the Alberta Mental Health Foundation and currently with the Glenrose Hospital Foundation, I’ve had the opportunity to help shape mental health initiatives at both the organizational and system-wide levels, focusing on access, innovation, and meaningful impact.

More About Mark Korthuis

“Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul.” — Carl Jung This quote resonates deeply with me and encapsulates my approach to counselling. While I have a strong foundation in evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness techniques, I believe that genuine human connection is at the heart of meaningful therapeutic work.

My journey to becoming a counsellor has been shaped by diverse experiences. As a former professional athlete, I’ve navigated the pressures of high-performance environments. In my roles as President and CEO of the Alberta Mental Health Foundation and currently with the Glenrose Hospital Foundation, I’ve been privileged to contribute to mental health initiatives at organizational levels. Additionally, my involvement with the Dalhousie University Centre for Global Mental Health and the Global Psychological eHealth Foundation has broadened my perspective on mental health’s global impact.

Academically, I hold a BA in Psychology and a Master’s in Public Policy. However, it’s my lived experiences—both personal and professional—that have most profoundly informed my counselling practice. In our sessions, I aim to create a space where you’re met with empathy, curiosity, and a commitment to action. I believe in meeting you where you are, without judgment, and working collaboratively to identify practical steps toward your goals. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, or seeking a deeper connection with yourself, I’m here to support you with compassion, insight, and a focus on meaningful change.
