Insight Psychological Therapists - Krista Yaskiw
Krista Yaskiw, Practicum Intern Therapist, BA Psych (She/Her)
I am a counselling therapist with nearly 20 years of experience supporting individuals and couples through mental health, addiction, trauma, and relationship challenges. My approach is collaborative, warm, and grounded in the belief that secure connection and purpose are central to healing. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered—because no one should have to navigate life’s hardest moments alone.
NOTE: Our Practicum Intern (Student) Therapists offer reduced rates for counselling support. Please be aware that FEES WILL BE NON-REIMBURSABLE by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.
More About Krista Yaskiw
I support clients navigating concerns such as addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship distress, and life transitions. I am a registered Counselling Therapist with the Association of Counselling Therapists of Alberta and am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology under the supervision of Erin Wilkinson.
My therapeutic style is client-centred, attachment-focused, and trauma-informed. I believe healing happens within safe, supportive relationships, and I work to help clients feel genuinely understood and actively engaged in their own growth. I strive to show up authentically and to champion your progress, bringing both empathy and gentle humour to our work—because life can be messy.
I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, emotional regulation techniques, and self-compassion practices to support emotional and relational change.
I specialize in couples work, with 13 years of experience in couples counselling and workshop facilitation focused on helping partners move out of disconnection and into healthier, more responsive patterns of communication, trust, and intimacy.
Whether you are working individually or as a couple, I aim to offer a steady, non-judgmental space where you can explore challenges, reconnect with your strengths, and move toward meaningful change.
A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS:
What quick advice do you have for people who are really struggling?
When you’re struggling, the most important thing to remember is that you don’t have to go through it alone. Start by taking one small step—reach out to someone you trust, slow your breathing, get outside, eat something, or give yourself permission to rest. Big changes often begin with tiny moments of compassion toward ourselves.
What are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about supporting individuals and couples in healing their attachment wounds and strengthening their capacity through meaningful, secure connections. I believe that we heal in relationships – with partners, with supportive communities, and within the therapeutic space itself.
