Specialized Counselling & Treatments

Psychological illnesses, disorders, strains, or injuries such as those listed below can, depending on the severity of the situation, decrease or even debilitate an employee’s capacity to perform optimally and to remain productive:

  • Significant stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health strain and injury, which may have resulted from challenges at home or at work, abuse, bullying, discrimination, violence, critical incident, or feeling psychologically unsafe.
  • Cognitive functioning impairment or deterioration due to stroke, heart attack, brain injury, aging, or other medical conditions.
  • Difficulty adjusting to major life changes such as marital break-up, death of a spouse, major illness, job loss, or others.
  • Psychological illnesses or disorders such as bipolar, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychotic or personality disorders, or other disorders.

As such, making early, adequate, and appropriate intervention/support readily accessible by employees who may be experiencing mental health difficulties is essential to their ability to remain resilient, productive, and well.

Some employees may also have complex, co-morbid, high trauma, severe mental health issues, or other specialized care needs. Such conditions can bring about severe and prolonged difficulties in a person’s home, social, and work life. Basic short term mental health support though one’s EFAP may not be adequate to help these employees properly address their conditions or difficulties. As a result, their condition can continue to deteriorate in spite of the fact that they might have gotten help. In such cases, specialized therapy and/or alternative treatments by clinicians with advanced or specialized training in the specific areas of concern may be required to properly support the employees’ recovery.

Specialised counseling/therapy is geared towards helping employees or their family members with complex, co-morbid, high trauma, severe mental health issues, substance/alcohol/gaming/porn/sex dependency issues, or other specialized care needs. Aside from being able to care for clients with different mental health issues, each therapist at Insight is also required to develop and advance their expertise in one or more areas of specialization. Areas of specialization include but not limited to: Anxiety Depression Trauma and PTSD Stress Transition, Grief, and Loss Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Bi-polar Disorder Sex and Gender Alcohol and Substance Dependency Couples, Relationship, and Intimacy Issues Family Issues Children and Youth Uniformed Personnel and First Responders Workplace Harassment, Conflicts, and Difficulties Various Other Psychological Conditions and Disorders

This service is geared towards helping employees/members or their family members work through and cope with their grief, loss, and difficulties adjusting to major changes or disruptions in their life. • Starting a new job or transitioning to a new position
  • Getting married
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Marital/relationship breakup
  • Death of spouse/life partner, child, or other loved ones
  • Major illness or injury
  • Significant conflict or problem at work, school, home, or with family or friend
  • Loss of employment and/or change of career/job
  • Significant financial loss
  • Change of residence
  • Going through menopause
  • Retirement
Adjusting to major changes or disruptions in one’s life, both positive and negative, can be difficult and can bring about anxiety, stress, and depending on the change, also depression and/or trauma. Research has shown that the accumulation of a high number of major life changes within a short period of time (such as a year or two) is related to the manifestation of various physical and mental health problems as many will experience some degree of difficulty adjusting to one or more of these changes. This in turn can result in lower productivity, higher absenteeism or disability leave, and increased turnover. Dealing with life transitions as well as grief and loss is one of Insight’s featured specialty programs. Insight’s therapists who specialize in transition difficulties as well as grief and loss can help your employees/members to deal with the changes, through the following support and care:

  • Individual Grief and Life Transition Counselling – Help the employees/members work through and cope with their grief, loss, and adjusting to the major changes in their lives.
  • Group Support for Grief and Life Transition – Each group is issue-specific and focuses on providing social support from peers going through the same life change, learning coping skills to deal with the major life change, exploring community resources that they can access, gaining resiliency, and adjusting to the new state of life.

If an employee has sustained any of the following, they may experience some degree of cognitive impairment or deterioration:
  • Concussion
  • Aneurysm
  • Traumatic brain injury (e.g. due to accidents)
  • Stroke
  • Heart Attack
  • Severe illness
  • Serious Medical Condition
  • Specific Psychological Conditions
  • Aging
There could be a noticeable weakening of their concentration and attention, memory, learning and retention, self-regulation, speech and language, information processing speed, reasoning, planning, problem-solving speed and/or decision-making ability. Aging individuals, even without any brain injury or medical condition can also experience cognitive deterioration where a slowdown in cognitive function is noticeable.

Such impairment or deterioration can in turn affect one’s ability to work, communicate, maintain relationships, and/or carry out daily tasks that were once routine. When an employee experiences some of these challenges, their mental health may also be affected. They may feel worried and frustrated with their decreased ability to do some of the things that they could previously do with ease, they may feel more anxious or shame and embarrassment, become less confident in their abilities, tire faster, or they may feel depressed and isolated with the change in their abilities. As such, initiating cognitive rehabilitation as well as mental health care as soon as possible is essential in facilitating the employee’s recovery process.

In consultation with their medical care givers and using state-of-art perceptual-cognitive equipment and tools, we can help your employee to assess, re-train and re-build, as much as possible, their cognitive and functional abilities. In addition, we will help them to deal with the mental health and relational impact of their impairment. Ultimately, we aim to help your employee/member regain a noticeable degree of their cognitive functions and their independence.

Eligible Insight clients can access psychotherapy (counselling), rTMS, or a combination of both to treat the following psychological and medical issues:
  • Severe depression
  • Major depressive disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Chronic pain
  • Migraines
  • Post concussion symptoms
  • Burnout
rTMS is an effective, research-backed, non-invasive process in which a focused magnetic field stimulates under-active brain cells, activates them to work more efficiently and transforms lives through symptom reduction. After treatment, a client can experience:
  • Fewer, weaker, or diminished symptoms associated with their psychological disorders or medical conditions
  • Improved mood
  • Increased ability to focus, concentrate, reason, and problem solve.
In combination, rTMS and psychotherapy can enhance the treatment outcomes for the psychological and medical issues identified above. Together with our partner, NeuroMed, we offer rTMS to our clients who:
  • May not have responded fully to conventional treatments (medication/therapy).
  • May want an alternative treatment option or a combination of treatment options.
  • Have had difficulty coping with some of the side effects of medication or do not wish to take medication.
Our therapists will work with each client to determine their treatment plan based on the nature of their disorder or condition and their unique needs. Our aim is to help our clients alleviate their symptoms, improve their overall cognitive functioning and mental wellness, and ultimately live a rich and full life.
