I’m curious about the part of your past that causes you to shut down. Was there a painful moment that you have not yet found closure around, or does anything in your past cause you to shut down?

Opening up more means taking a few risks. I suggest doing this with close friends or family members who you feel safe around. If your habit has been to shut down, it will take a lot of work to change this habit. So be gentle with yourself and start slowly. I highly recommend having the support of an experienced counselor while you go through this process.
