You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from marriage counselling. Some couples come to us during a hard stretch, others come to strengthen a marriage that’s already going well or to navigate a big transition together. There’s no threshold of ‘bad enough’ you need to hit first.
There’s no wrong time to reach out, whether you’ve been struggling for years or just want to get ahead of something before it becomes a bigger problem.
and we work at your pace.
Our couples therapists in Edmonton take a non-judgmental, client-led approach. You and your spouse set the pace and the topics; we’re here to support whatever that looks like for you.
believes that couples need to be able to work on becoming better friends, learn to manage conflict, and create ways to support each other’s hopes for the future. The foundation of Gottman couples therapy is based on Dr. John and Julie Gottman’s 40+ years of clinical experience and research that is based on interventions and exercises that are structured, goal-oriented and scientifically based.
is based on observations and experience. It looks at emotions and emotional intelligence, which helps support stronger and more secure relationships by helping better understand how our actions impact others, and how our emotions drive our interactions.
Crucible® Therapy or the Crucible Approach is an integrated therapeutic approach that started out as an integrated therapy treatment for sex, intimacy, and relationship problems. With couples, the therapist will ultimately push them outside of their comfort zone and develop new comfort zones by becoming more emotionally mature.
For couples whose challenges include sexual disconnection or mismatched needs, some of our therapists specialize specifically in this area.
For relationship difficulties connected to past trauma or difficult experiences.
For couples caught in a cycle of trying to fix or change each other, ACT shifts the focus toward acceptance of real differences and commitment to shared values, rather than waiting for conflict to disappear.
Your therapist will always follow your lead on what you want to work on.
Tell us what you’re going through, and we’ll connect you with the right therapist for your needs.
Answer a few quick questions, and we’ll find the best therapist match for you.

Most clients are seen within the same week, waiting shouldn’t be part of it.
Our therapists have specific training and experience working with spouses navigating everything from communication breakdowns to major life transitions.
Alberta Blue Cross, Greenshield, Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife and more. Most extended health plans also cover our services.
We offer counselling at reduced rates through our Master’s level accredited Therapists, so cost is never a barrier to getting help.
We have multiple locations in Edmonton and a clinic in Sherwood Park. Online sessions are also available if that works better for you.
Insight is proud to offer LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC affirming care, with a team as diverse as the clients we support.
No. Some couples come to us during a difficult time, others come to strengthen a relationship that’s already going well or to navigate a big transition together. There’s no threshold of ‘bad enough’ you need to hit first.
Most clients get their first appointment within the same week of reaching out. Many of our therapists also offer evening and weekend appointments, so you can find a time that works around your job or family schedule. Call us at (780) 461-1717, and we’ll match you with someone who has room to see you both soon.
Most extended health benefit plans cover psychological care services. We can direct bill several major insurers, including Alberta Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sun Life Manulife and Greenshield, so you may not have to pay out of pocket. For plans we can’t direct bill, we provide a receipt you can submit for reimbursement. Alberta Health Care does not cover private therapy, so we recommend confirming your specific plan’s coverage, or call us and we’ll help you check before you book.
Most sessions include both partners together, though some approaches build in individual check-ins as part of the process. Your therapist will explain how their specific approach works before you start.
Yes. What you share in therapy, whether that’s session content, your reason for reaching out, or any records we keep, is treated as confidential. We don’t disclose it to anyone outside your care team without your consent, and that includes keeping your booking and billing discreet given how given how personal these conversations can be.
There are a small number of legal exceptions all therapists are required to follow, most commonly if there’s a risk of serious harm to you or someone else. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly before you start, so there are no surprises.
If you’re coming in as a couple, what’s shared in a joint session is shared with both partners, since you’re both in the room. If either of you also has individual sessions, either alongside couples work or on your own, what you share in those individual sessions stays between you and your therapist and isn’t automatically passed to your partner. Your therapist can talk through how this works for your specific situation before you begin.
We’re here to help every step of the way.
