Insight Psychological Therapists - Ysabelle Bertumen

Ysabelle Bertumen, Practicum Intern Therapist, B.Sc, MC (She/Her)
As a therapist, my practice is guided by the belief that everyone is doing the best that they can with the knowledge and resources that they currently have. As such, I am committed to enhancing my clients’ capacity to overcome their current and future challenges by building upon their existing strengths and fostering the growth of new skills and abilities. I also aim to cultivate and maintain a therapeutic space where clients of all ages, cultures, genders, sexualities, religions, and other walks of life feel safe to share their most vulnerable life stories, struggles, and experiences freely without judgement. This entails tailoring my approach to best suit each client’s unique needs, goals, strengths, identities, and lived experiences.
*NOTE: Our Practicum Intern (Student) Therapists offer reduced rates for counselling support. Please be aware that FEES WILL BE NON-REIMBURSABLE by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.
More About Ysabelle Bertumen
Hello and welcome! I’m Ysabelle, a passionate therapist dedicated to helping you navigate life’s challenges and discover your inner strength. With a background in psychology, I also possess extensive and diverse experience working as a mental health worker in various settings where I discovered my tenacity for supporting and advocating for individuals facing mental health, trauma, grief, loss, and everyday struggles. This passion led me to pursue a Master of Counselling, allowing me to serve others on a deeper level.
My philosophy is rooted in the belief that each person possesses the potential for growth, healing, and resilience. Sometimes, we all need a helping hand to unlock that potential. I tailor my approach to your unique needs, blending various therapeutic methods such as strength-based, client-centered, trauma-informed, and holistic techniques. As a therapist, I aim to create a therapeutic space where you feel seen, understood, and safe to be your authentic self. I’m here to listen and support you as you explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges. Through open and honest conversations, we’ll work together to foster growth and get you one step closer to your goals.
Therapy, for me, is a collaborative and authentic conversation built on trust. You are the expert of your life, and by inviting me into your world, you grant me the privilege of walking alongside you on your path. I recognize that we each carry intersecting identities that shape our experiences, perceptions, and interactions. This is why, from the very beginning, my focus is on understanding every facet of what makes you, you.
A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS:
What is your favourite quote?
“Owning your story and loving ourselves through the process is the bravest thing that you’ll ever do” – Brené Brown
What quick advice do you have for people who are really struggling?
Give yourself some credit for how far you’ve come, how much you’ve grown, and everything you have endured. And give yourself some grace as you evolve, heal, and learn how to navigate life when it gets complicated and overwhelming.
