Insight Psychological Therapists - Tracy Pham

Tracy Pham, Therapist, Autism Clinical Lead (She/Her)

Hello! I am passionate about supporting individuals, couples, children, youth, and families during challenging times. I utilize client-centered and strength-based approaches to help individuals work towards their desired goals as I believe they are the experts of their own experiences and have the ability to develop a sense of empowerment within themselves.

NOTE: Our Post-Practicum Intern Therapists offer reduced rates for counselling support. Please be aware that FEES WILL BE NON-REIMBURSABLE by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.

*Tracy is currently not accepting any new autism assessments.

More About Tracy Pham

I utilize a client-centered perspective and draw from strength-based approaches such as: acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and family therapy to help individuals work towards their desired goals. I work collaboratively with each of my clients to ensure their needs and hopes from therapy are being addressed.

Most of my experience has been around completing assessments and working with children and youth who have complex needs, have neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders, and who have experienced both simple and complex traumas in hospital settings, the community, their home environment, and in schools. I have a strong interest in play therapy as I believe it is a strongly beneficial approach in allowing children the ability to express themselves safely and at their own pace when verbal communication may be difficult for them.

My specialties include: adolescent and teen issues, stress management, emotional regulation, self-esteem issues, anxiety, and children’s mental health. Supporting families to understand and manage behaviours associated with these experiences is something important to me to help build on healthy family relationships.

A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS:

Have you, or anyone close to you, had to overcome any trauma, or mental health challenge?

Growing up, I heard stories about my dad being a Vietnamese refugee who came to Canada by boat. He never used to say much about his experience and I remember when I was younger, I didn’t understand much about it or how this may have impacted him. As I got older, I was able to acknowledge the trauma my dad experienced during that challenging time and the perception of the stigma around mental health in our culture. Many people will experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives whether it is simple or complex; however, not all people will experience or react the same way to trauma. Being culturally-competent, non-judgmental, and present for those who have experienced traumatic experiences will allow me to support them in the way they need and to bring awareness and recognition to the importance of mental health.

What do you do to keep your outlook optimistic?

Self-care is something I have started to really integrate into my life as there are so many beneficial and positive impacts of taking time for oneself. Self-care has helped me to manage my own stressors and to take care of my health and well-being. Some of my personal favorite self-care activities are: spending time with my husband, playing Candy Crush (I have been playing on the same account for over seven years and I’m a bit past level 7000!), working out, eating out, and cooking/baking.
