More about Teela Tomassetti

I feel that it is essential to create a warm, welcoming, safe, non-judgmental space for my clients to work towards change, growth and healing.

I am working towards completing my Masters in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University with plans of continuing on to my doctorate in Psychology shortly after. I recently moved here from Winnipeg where I spent the last 14 years counselling people with mental health, addictions and trauma related issues.

Some of my work experience includes, individual, group, couples and family counselling at addictions treatment centres as well as running programs that were pre and post treatment. I can work from both a harm reduction approach as well as the traditional 12 AA abstinence approach and prefer to meet my clients where they are at. I have worked at sexual assault and crisis centres offering counselling to those who have been sexually assaulted as well as in crisis and have suicidal thoughts and behaviors. I have also worked with victims of crime as a Victim Services Worker with Manitoba Justice in the Domestic Violence Unit. As well as a diabetes counsellor at a centre supporting individuals with Type 1 and 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. As well as various mental health centres supporting those with anxiety, depression, bi-polar, psychosis and borderlines personality disorders.

The major therapeutic approaches that I draw from are; Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered, Compassion Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

I am passionate about the work that I do and often engage in advocacy and social justice related issues. I believe in walking alongside my clients and that they are the experts of their own lives. I work from a collaborative therapeutic alliance approach blending techniques that best suit your needs and look forward to working together towards your goals.
