More about Nicholas Breitenbach

I believe in a collaborative approach with my client setting goals for therapy, while I provide the space and support for my client’s journey to meet these goals. I use an interdisciplinary evidence-based approach to therapy with a strong emphasis on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am strongly passionate about work related to sexuality and/or relationships, whether these problems are being faced alone or with partner(s).  I think that the majority of mental health struggles relate to relationships, whether that is relationships with others, your environment, or your relationship with yourself. I have experience working with clients who experienced trauma, specifically with survivors of Domestic Violence and abuse. In order to provide more comprehensive support for my clients living with trauma, I will begin receiving training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) early 2021.

My experiences with trauma and relationships has motivated me to be an advocate for the conversation of healthy relationships in our society.

NOTE: Although individual therapy sessions are usually 1 hour long, typically couples therapy sessions are 1.5 hours.

Looking forward to working with you!

A question:

Nicholas, What is your favourite quote?

Psychologist B.F. Skinner said it best, “a failure is not always a mistake, it may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying”. Life provides us with many obstacles and sometimes those obstacles are difficult to overcome. The beauty of the human mind is that we have the potential to grow and learn from our experiences with these obstacles. I know that some of my greatest failures, have been some of my most important learning moments in life.
