More About Natalie McMurray

I am currently completing my Master of Counselling degree through Gonzaga University. My journey to counselling began through my athletic background. I have been a competitive athlete my entire life and witnessing and experiencing the mental health strain placed on young athletes was the reason I entered the field of psychology and counselling. Since beginning my post-secondary and graduate school experiences, I have been exposed to the incredible range of counselling and the difference it can make in any person’s life.

I believe every person is the expert of their own life, and the therapeutic relationship is one of collaboration and alliance. My approach to the therapeutic process is accepting, warm, and interactive. I apply a person-centered approach and draw from other therapeutic approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), multicultural and feminist therapy, narrative therapy, family systems therapy, and mindfulness therapy.

Therapy is not one-size fits all and I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals with an approach that best suits your unique experiences.

Natalie, what is your favourite quote?

“My life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean. Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?”

-David Mitchell

What quick advice do you have for people who are really struggling?

My advice to anyone who is struggling is to be courageous and seek assistance when you need it. You know yourself better than anyone else and asking for help and support when you feel it is lacking in your life can be a catalyst for great change.
