Insight Psychological Therapists - Dr. Charlotte McGinnis

Dr. Charlotte McGinnis, Registered Psychologist, Clinical Supervisor and Area Supervisor for Effectus Program, MA, (She/Her)
I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and a history of trauma. I also enjoy working with athletes experiencing difficulties with performance, anxiety and depression. I am a Registered Psychologist with a Masters in Psychology from the University of Chicago. I have specific training in DBT, CBT, Mindfulness based therapies, Attachment Approaches, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Couples Therapy, which allows me to draw from many modalities in my work with clients.
Unfortunately, Dr. Charlotte McGinnis is not seeing any new clients at Insight Psychological. Please select another therapist from our team.
More About Dr. Charlotte McGinnis
I have been described as easy to talk to, warm, accepting, and empathetic. I use a client-centered approach to therapy and am passionate about helping my clients to achieve their therapeutic goals. I believe my role, in the therapeutic relationship, is to provide a client with skills to cope with their challenges and to provide feedback towards a deeper understanding of their experience. I draw on many therapeutic approaches in my work but I mainly work from an attachment perspective and employ many mindfulness skills. I welcome and respect individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.
I am a mom to three young girls and am passionate about living an active and well-balanced life. My husband and I are ‘foodies’ and enjoy exploring and cooking new cuisines. As a family, we love to spend as much time as possible outside hiking, biking, golfing, playing at the playground, exploring nature, and barbecuing. Before becoming a psychologist, I attended university on a golf scholarship and was named an Academic All-American for my academic and athletic success.
A QUESTION:
When did you know you wanted to become a psychologist?
The main thing that drove my interest in becoming a psychologist was watching someone close to me, who had a very traumatic childhood, go through the therapeutic process and move from a place of high distress and suicidality to a much more grounded, happy and fulfilled place. Witnessing her resilience and the power of healing through therapy had a profound effect on me and made me want to be part of that process
