Hi. I have a big problem. I have been so stressed lately so I’m thinking of smoking. The problem is my boyfriend says he’ll break up with me if I get addicted. Why do I do? I am so depressed now because I don’t know what to do right now.
Smoking is an unhealthy coping mechanism to deal with stress. I suggest exploring some healthy coping mechanisms to help you deal with this stress instead. Healthy coping mechanisms include physical activities such as running or walking, journaling, speed writing, meditation, relaxation exercises, talking with a friend, dancing, singing, art, joining a youth group, … there are many healthy things you can do to relieve stress and create a more fulfilling lifestyle. Maybe ask your boyfriend for some suggestions and perhaps he can take part in some activities with you.
