It could be. It depends on the extent to which it is affecting the individual’s life. Is the dominance and perfectionism preventing the person from everyday living (getting up in the morning, working, maintaining a balanced lifestyle)?

Is it severely impacting the individual’s social relationships?

The dominance or perfectionism could simply be a personality style. If it’s something the person wants to change this is possible with support and guidance through a counselor, or there are many self-help books to help alter things like dominance and perfectionism.

In order to determine whether or not it is a mental illness, a proper assessment needs to be completed.

Counseling or assessments can be found at Insight Psychological (780-461-1717), The Family Center (780-424-5580), or The Support Network (780-482-0198).
