I have been in a relationship for 4 going onto 5 years now I truly believe I love the person I’m with but she recently admitted to cheating on me with a guy she had gotten close with I was devastated and I really don’t know what to do she claims to love me and I love her to but how do i forgive this?

An affair that occurs in a relationship is considered a breech of trust. If both individuals in the couple system are willing to work on the relationship, this trust should be restored. Have you voiced your concerns to your partner about your feelings and difficulties with the current state of the relationship? If so, is she willing to work on the relationship with you? These are questions to consider. The next step is to determine what you require or expect from your partner in order to mend the damage. Sometimes this step can be difficult when strong emotions are involved. I would suggest couples counseling that will provide a third party’s unbiased support. This will give both you and your partner a safe environment to be open and honest about your needs and expectations from the each other and help you gain clarity regarding the relationship.
