Upcoming Event: Wellness Within – April 17, 2018
Spring into Self Care with Insight Psychological Inc.’s Newest Workshop
Is it hard for you to prioritize self-care in your life? Are you struggling with family or workplace stress? Are you quick to feel frustrated, angry or anxious in the face of challenging circumstances?
Wellness Within: A Personal Wellness and Self Regulation Workshop for adults offers participants a helpful way to approach their own struggles to be well, in terms of self-regulation and our relationship with ourselves. Whether it be that you are too hard on yourself, that you experience a lot of negative self-talk, often feel anxious or angry, that you don’t follow through with commitments, or that you fail to make healthy choices, these issues have something in common: how you treat yourself and manage your life. This workshop aims to give you a new way to conceptualize this self-treatment to help you make better choices for yourself.
Heather Gower, a Registered Provisional Psychologist with Insight Psychological Inc., will walk you through a model that you can use in your daily life to tackle a wide range of problems. While this workshop is not specifically for parents, it uses the gold standard of parenting turned inwards in order to activate healthy choices and self-treatment. Heather thinks of this as a “self-parenting approach” to a healthier and happier life.
This workshop will first involve a teaching component that will review wellness and self-regulation, incorporating parenting styles as a way to conceptualize these choices. Ultimately, each of us is basically responsible for the choices we make and the way we run our lives, but we don’t often think about this as resembling the same responsibility held by parents: to teach children to manage their own lives using warmth, empathy, and good clear boundaries. Our relationships with ourselves can be similarly managed, and this workshop teaches you all about that!
In addition to the teaching portion of the workshop, you will be led through various reflective activities to help you gain better insight into your own patterns of coping. You will also have the chance to design a more intentional way of coping with whatever most gets in your way or disrupts you. This workshop also provides time for collaboration so that you may ask questions or troubleshoot the things that get in the way of you being a better self-parent. Therefore, please come with questions about the things that most help or most get in the way of you managing stress or commitments.
Please note that this is an action-oriented workshop. It seeks to provide action-based solutions to the things that trip you up in your day-to-day life, and though we will discuss motivation issues, it is best directed at people who are already motivated to change. Wellness Within is not designed to help you deeply process your past or current trauma and is probably not suitable for people who are in need of extended therapy, however this workshop may be complementary to your therapeutic process (ask your therapist if this workshop is a good fit for you). Furthermore, this workshop is not designed to help with relationships with others. Instead, it is all about our relationship with ourselves! Please feel free to contact us with questions about whether this workshop might be right for you.
