This lecture style class presentation is presented in Mandarin
Mandarin speaking parents with children ages 10-16 who are experiencing challenges with focusing on school, family, and social life due to the distractions of internet and technology. This class is intended for the parents only. Teachers would benefit from this class as well.
1) How to identify the different types of internet addiction in your children and adolescents from a psychological perspective
2) Understand how internet addiction is affecting your children
3) Understand cultural influences on internet addiction
3) Learn how to deal with, and prevent, internet addiction in your children
Handouts will be provided and parents will have 20 minutes for a question and answer session at the end of the presentation. Parents will have the option to register for a series of 5 more extensive workshops in April and May that dive deeper into the social skill development of their children if they determine from this presentation that their child is “addicted”.
Lai Ping (Clara) Mak is a registered provisional psychologist at Insight Psychological. Since 1991 Clara has worked as a social worker, registered clinical counsellor and chaplain. She is experienced in presenting and facilitating workshops on various mental health issues relating to depression, anxiety disorders, and addictions to diverse groups in public mental health and private agencies. Clara is an integrative professional drawing from a broad repertoire of treatment techniques. As a doctoral candidate, she derives her material from recent research and key texts.
