Courageous Kids – Group Therapy for Children Experiencing Anxiety – NEW DATES!
March 13 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm MDT
Is your child experiencing strong emotions that are too big for them to manage? Do you feel that these emotions are affecting their relationships with friends, teachers, and family? Is your child ready to take the next step to cope better with these emotions?
Courageous Kids offers children (8-11 years old) practical strategies to cope with anxiety. The workshop series teaches children to a) identify what is going on inside their bodies, b) how to manage thoughts and emotions, and c) constructively communicate with others and create meaningful relationships.
The workshops are structured with a teaching component at the beginning of each workshop followed by engaging activities to practice the skills. Activities will be a mix of independent work and group work and involve the use of mindfulness practices and art work. The goals of each activity are to help children cope with the emotions and manage their relationship with friends. The workshops also provide time for collaboration so that children may ask questions or troubleshoot challenging situations and things that can get in the way of optimal wellness. Please note: these sessions are for the children only, parental participation is not required.
Courageous Kids is not designed to help children deeply process past or current trauma and is probably not suitable for people who are in need of extended therapy. However, this workshop series may complement the therapeutic process and supports that are in place. Please feel free to contact us with questions about whether this workshop series might be the fit for your child.

Please inform us if your child has allergies or skin sensitivities as we will be using art materials. Please also ensure your child is wearing clothes that can get dirty. Parents are not required to stay for the duration of the session, but we ask that they arrive back 10-15 minutes before the end of session. We will have a 10-minute period reserved after the sessions to give parents an overview of the session, some suggestions on how to help facilitate what the kids are learning in the group at home, and ask questions. This parent portion is voluntary but encouraged.
