I’m worried that I may be pregnant. I’m freaking out, and overanalyzing everything. I can’t handle it.

Take a few deep breaths.

Whenever you find yourself over-reacting or over-analyzing tell yourself to “stop” then breath.

Deep breathing decreases your heart rate. This in turn enables you to think more clearly and you are able to use the “critical thinking” part of your brain as opposed to the “reactive” part of your brain. The process of slowing down and re-focusing your thoughts decreases anxiety. Being anxious will not help your situation.

Saying “stop! These thoughts are not serving me!” to yourself gives you a momont to shift your thoughts. Attempt to think about something else. Some people find it helpful to carry a list of pleasant things to turn to when they are in this state. Another option is to on the environment around you. Where are you? can you feel yourself standing or sitting in that space? Look at the colors around you and the objects around you. What does the air smell like? Being present in the moment is another way to reduce your anxiety.

In regards to whether or not you are pregnant, is there someone who you can talk to? Do you have a good friend, a family member, or a who you can talk to in order? You may want to speak to counselor or a therapist in your community. You could also speak to a doctor or a nurse. Getting medical information will certainly help relieve your anxiety.
