To increase your confidence, you will need to determine what your strengths are. I suggest going to the following website to take a quiz about your core strengths. http://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu/Default.aspx. you will have to register, then you can go to “questionnaires” and take the quiz called “VIA survey of character strengths”

I will also suggest sitting down with a pen and paper and writing out the things you like about yourself/things you are good at/moments you have been proud of yourself. Perhaps you could get a close friend or family member to help you with this.

Pay close attention to your self-talk. people with low confidence tend to say negative statements to themselves and outloud. Pay close attention to how often you think or say something negative. Negative self-talk is a habit and the best way to break this habit is to replace it with a more positive habit. so when you catch yourself thinking or saying something negative, try replacing it with a positive thought.

On order to help with “presence of mind”, i suggest practicing some mindfulness techniques, relaxation exercises, or meditation. These practices will help you learn to control your thoughts, still your mind, and be more present. These practices take a lot of work to master, so be patient with yourself and remember that it is a process. To practice being more straight forward, look on line for “assertiveness Techniques”. you may also want to read the book “the seven habits of highly effective people”.

there are plenty of self-help books out there that offer great advice, so check your local library or bookstore. You may also want to speak to a therapist for additional support and some suggestions to guide you on your path.
