Recognizing the varying degrees of difficulty in social interaction, communication, and/or executive functioning experienced by some clients and understanding how such difficulties could directly affect an individual’s employment success and sustainability, Insight has used certain tools such as the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) to assess the individual’s capacity to perceive emotions, facilitate thoughts, understand emotions, and ultimately manage emotions. The Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Third Edition (ABAS-3) provides a complete assessment of adaptive skills across the life span for both adults and children which is also used commonly for adaptive functioning as well as behavioral evaluations.
The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function – Adult (BRIEF-A) is a standardized measure that captures views of an adult’s executive functions or self-regulation in his or her everyday environment. It has also been used by Insight to assess an individual’s overall executive functioning in nine overlapping sub-scales
Insight has also used the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2), a test that is more commonly known and used to assess autism. In addition to its use as a diagnostic tool for autism, the content of the test itself has been very useful in assessing specific tendencies related to communication, social interaction, play as well as restricted and repetitive behaviours. Information gained through the test will not only inform diagnosis, but more importantly also treatment and support planning, educational placement, accommodation strategy formation.
Other tests that have been used by Insight for assessment include but not limited to IQ tests used within the psycho-educational area such as the Adult Intelligence Test – Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV). WAIS-IV and Wechsler Memory Scale – Fourth Edition (WMS-IV) WAIS.
