Elicia Miller - B.A. (First Class Honours), M.Sc. Clinical Psychology, Registered Provisional Psychologist

Elicia Miller

Elicia Miller graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology, from the University of Calgary in 2008. She completed her Masters of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2010. These degrees provided her with outstanding clinical and academic training and prepared her to engage in both therapy and psycho-educational/social assessments.

Elicia has experience working with individuals (children to adults), couples, families, and groups from a variety of different cultures and ages who have a broad range of concerns. She has completed practicum placements in several Calgary Hospitals and facilities including the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Rockyview Hospital.  In addition, Elicia has worked with children and their families to support and remediate behavioural and academic issues at the Foothills Academy. She has facilitated the Teen Life Skills program through the Learning Disabilities Association of Calgary and designed and facilitated the ADHD/Learning Disabilities module of the Girls Leading Others Wisely (GLOW) program at Foothills Academy.

Prior to coming to Insight Psychological Inc, Elicia was employed at the Calgary Counselling Centre where her training and experience continued to grow.

As part of her strong belief in education and preventative interventions, Elicia has been a volunteer with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) education program in which she gives presentations in high schools around Calgary on Stress, Mental Illness, and Suicide. Elicia also has a strong artistic background and can work with interested clients to utilize artistic and/or creative expressions throughout therapy.  Elicia is currently available at our Calgary location.

Elicia believes that all human beings have the ability to grow and make improvements in their lives. Naturally, this growth can come with challenges and/or difficulties which must be overcome to reach our full potential. When these challenges are too great or new to us it can be vital to have a professional on one’s side to help sort through the variables and provide new perspectives/techniques to use. Often, an individual’s own strengths, creativity and past successes can be drawn on throughout the therapeutic process.

As a result of this perspective, Elicia works primarily as a client-centered Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. In her work, she helps individuals achieve their own goals by encouraging their natural strengths and making changes as needed in thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Throughout this process she strives to be culturally sensitive and to work within the individual’s spiritual orientation/beliefs.

As a therapist, Elicia brings her training, knowledge, and own life experience as a means to walk with others as they overcome their challenges. She believes that individuals, in turn, bring their own life experience, knowledge, and ideas about change as a means to make sense of their lives and find the courage to make changes. Together, the therapist and client can make meaningful and lasting change in the individual’s life.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift – that is why it is called the present.” ~ Unknown
