Daughter having sex
I was looking at my 14 year old daughters messages yesterday and found that she has sex with her boyfriend multiple times ( breaking the law ) I talked to her and she said she would feel more comfortable discussing it with her counselor, because I am her father and I could see how that would be uncomfortable for her. She asked me if her counselor could legally tell anybody about it even though it is breaking the law to have under-aged sex.

Thank you for contacting Insight Psychological for help. According to the Criminal Code of Canada, the age that a young person can consent to sexual activity is 16. However, there are "close-in-age" exemptions for those under the age of 16. It is important that you research the law carefully to determine whether or not your daughter's sexual relations with her boyfriend are considered to be consensual by the law. It may also benefit your daughter to speak with one of our therapists so that she has the opportunity to discuss her experiences in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.
